Parking Attendants

Post by Porty » 30 Mar 2006, 21:24

To continue the recent Transport theme...and to follow up on a BBC brekfast item this very morning.

What do you think of Parking Attendants? I probably get 3 tickets a year, two of which I deserve. I think they do a good job.

Where do they go after work that's what I want to know. I've certainly never met one socially..has anyone :? ....maybe they have a special club for their own safety...or maybe they lie about their chosen profession and say they're something altogether more popular like mortgage advisors

They get my blood boiling in the morning (actually, prob quite a good idea seeing as I'm not a morning person  ) when I'm walking the dog.

Regularly, between 8-8.30 in the morning, I pass them at the bottom of Bath Street with pen in hand writing a ticket for a car that has one tyre 1-2 inches over the double-yellow. Jobsworth and wanker ( ) are the words that come to mind. The car is causing no obstruction, and there should be some leeway.....but commonsense never comes into it where parking attendants are concerned.

(and I don't even own a car at the moment!)

A friend of mine who lives further down the street couldn't get parked anywhere one night so she decided to take a chance and park in the disabled space at the baths. It was about 10 o'clock at night and the baths were closed so she didn't think it was being too naughty. Anyway she got a parking ticket at around midnight and another one at 3 or 4 in the morning which was a bit mean. She then didn't pay on time and got another fine for that so it was a very expensive experience.

Yes, its terrible the persecution those poor car drivers get. Funny how citizens who break the law in other areas of life deserve the punishment - fare dodgers on buses for instance, or not paying your council tax.

But pick on the innocent car driver and you'd better get out of the way or you'll be drowned in a tsunami of bleating about "lack of commonsense" and "over-zealous" jobsworths.

And as for those speed cameras - its all a "dastardly plot by the council to inflate their coffers and fleece the poor innocents who happen to drive one or two miles an hour above the speed limit" (copyright Evening News).

And they've paid for the right to speed, park carelessly and block up "their" streets 'cos they've paid their road tax, haven't they??

Mind you - I'm biased. As ecm will tell you I'm so sad I celebrate (muttering "get that stitched") each time I press the button on the pedestrian crossing and the traffic (eventually, sometimes) has to stop - FOR ME!!!!!!

another small victory in the battle against the car.

Normally I would agree with you but in this case if you knew my friend(ecm does or did (she says Hi by the way)) then you might be a bit more sympathetic. She is one of the most law abiding people that I know and she very seldom uses her car. She cycles to work every day, in fact cycles most of the time and is very environmentally aware and puts me to shame regularly but she is also human and made one mistake and paid for it.

Dont park where you shouldnt and you'll be fine!

I was quite lucky last month, I parked in West Falcon Rod (Monringside) and went off out clubbing. Arrived after work the next again day and long behold my car was gone... turns out I was on double yellows that were extremely faded and worn. So my car got impounded.

Anyways to cut a long story short I appealed and won back my £135. 8)
