I missed this story, which appeared in the EN last Wed. I must remember to search on 'Joppa' as well as 'Portobello' in future.

No grounds for complaint.self seeking neighbours wrote: But residents say they fear they could lose their own parking spaces and if the changes are allowed to go ahead it could open the way for even bigger developments in the future. “

Selfishness to the extreme, no right whatsoever to park and no notification required as no planning implications.self seeking neighbours wrote: "If the wall is knocked down it will mean two parking spaces will be lost - and it's not always easy for people to park their cars here. A favourite misunderstanding of the long-term resident: imagined rights over more recent dwellers.
"Mr Foster's wife Nancy, 62, said: "If the contractor comes back we will just have to move the cars. I do not want my husband to end up in jail."
Well said by Mrs Foster, as that is precisely where Mr F would deserve to go should he carry on.
"But Mr Brown, 43, insisted he had done everything properly. "
Well done Mr Brown you have conducted matters properly and do not deserve to be victimised and ostracised the way you have been. The other "neighbours" ought to be ashamed of their behaviour, all to defend the "loss" of two parking spaces to which they were not entitled. I am glad I don't live beside that lot.victim of vigliante group wrote:"I went through an architect and everything was passed by the council," he explained. how many cars!?
I agree with what you say Porty, but find it hard to believe that any household NEEDS five cars.
Denise, I agree with what you say but how many cars they choose to own is a private matter for that family and should not detract from their rights. The argument could get sidetracked by the rights and wrongs of multi-car ownership but it is not the point.
Having said that it would be no surprise if some of the "neighbours" are also 2+ car households, hence the parking issue.
Muti-car ownership is worth keeping an eye on. I have heard of a lot of people who abuse planning regulations and are actually home-based car traders.

Re: Walls of Joppa
Not very nice calling them 'that lot'. There are people who move into a street and think they can rule the roost. the residents who have lived in the area a long time are quite right, i know what parking is like in my street at times we can wait 2 hours to get parked. keep up the good work colliesdene residents.Porty wrote:No grounds for complaint.self seeking neighbours wrote: But residents say they fear they could lose their own parking spaces and if the changes are allowed to go ahead it could open the way for even bigger developments in the future. “
