I've moved into Argyle Crescent and am settling in nicely. This is my first time staying in Portobello - but prior to my move I frequently visited friends (who now live around the corner). Many work-mates, including the CEO, also live in Porty (and talk highly of our little corner of the city!).

Is the best/biggest post office the one in the Co-op supermarket?

Glad you're settling in well. Lucky you to stay in Argyle Crescent, I reckon it's one of the nicest streets in Porty.

Since the closure of the Joppa PO some months back the Scotmid one is the only one to serve the area now.

There's a lot of people from my work round here too.

Which is nice.

Hi guys

The next item on my list is a pub. I'll be turning 30 in 2006 and work in a dot-com so would probably prefer a "Yuppy pub" !! *shame*

There's one at the end of, er, I think it's Bath Street, which opens out on to the beach front which seems nice. The ones along the high street seem more traditional/smokey.

Yeah, I guess The Bath Street pub, Utopia Beach Life, is about as "yuppy" as you'll get round here, Andy.

We're waiting patiently to see what the Figgate Whins (currently boarded up) along the High Street near Carlos will be like if, or when, it re-opens.

Yup! That's very near me. I'll be watching that too! One of these days I need to explore the other end of Argyle Crescent and see what's up that way!

Welcome to Porty, Andy....and POL

Myself and Sandra moved here 2 years ago, and love it, so hopefully you'll like it just as much. Utopia is probably the only pub close to what you're looking for, and it's not bad (was only 'done up' about 6-9 months ago)

Hi Andy

Dalriada is nice bar/restaurant on the prom, its great in the summer -spending the afternoon in the garden or on the beach with a few magners or glasses of wine. Utopia is is good too. Ormelie at Joppa is worthy of a visit also.

The age for POL or Porty? I can't but help notice the wash of school kids when I go for the bus in the morning (what happned to the 32 stop!). Hmm! You're not suggesting that teenagers have something better to do than hang around on community forums? Terrible!

Oh. Tell you what; I should start a thread to see who else has an Xbox Live Subscription around here and get a Porty league going for various games (not that I ever have time to xbox any more).

Andy, Utopia is OK, not my personal pint of Lager, the wife likes it,though.

Much prefer Dalriada, I'm sure they could accomodate a few yuppies

and the food is good too.

No. I'm not in Porto High School so I always feel out of place when I walk by! I suspect the school keeps Gregs open!
