Thermocouple had gone but we're used to that - it seems to need replaced every 2 or 3 years but the valve had gone as well (it's a 30 yr old boiler). The guy was excellent btw and I would be happy to recommend.CatzVP wrote:Sounds as if your thermocouple needed replaced, 150 quid is a bit steepBob Jefferson wrote: Oh, and the £150 it cost to repair the boiler which failed to re-ignite when we were finally re-connected.
Hm, doesn't say "Up to..." in this email I just got...but I thought their literature had always said "Up to", even if the old days of no MB.
I've not tested it though. And I've been happy with broadband from Blueyonder all the time we've had it - having seen my FIL's BT connection I think TW are doing ok.Dear Customer,
We're pleased to tell you that we have upgraded your speed from 1Mb to up to 4Mb. We have also increased your upstream speed to up to 384k from 128k.
Whatever you do online you can now enjoy doing it even faster with the free extra speed. So why not use it to download music* or send photos to your friends and family.

I used the useful info from Ifstar's link to find out how to find lots of techie info about my connection with which I've bombarded the staff in Technical Support at Blueyonder. I'm just hoping they don't phone to talk to me about my tracer route, modem log, ping results et al. I won't sound so knowledgeable then

Well it looks like it was worthwhile digging up all the info. Just been told that a Tech visit has been booked as my modem signals are too low.Marya wrote: I used the useful info from Ifstar's link to find out how to find lots of techie info about my connection with which I've bombarded the staff in Technical Support at Blueyonder. Had my visit from a very nice service engineer who told me his visit was a complete waste of time. The problem lies with Telewest as their Edinburgh UBRs cannot cope with the numbers that have been upgraded. There had been a meeting that day concerning this but he didn't know what the outcome was. It's a case of just waiting and hoping that things will get faster soon.
If anyone else wants to check out their Blueyonder speed try the speed test on here http://www.websupportpage.co.uk/
Oh well, I might not be getting the promised 4MB but it's still faster than my old 1MB connection.

Ran the speed test on that site, coming out at about 3.34Mb for me and says that I should be downloading at 428KB - which is nonsense as I was happily downloading from the states last night at over 1Mb. As I said before, download some big files (50Mb plus) and see what sort of speed they come down at, Marya you would be looking for about 400/500KB per second.
Just tried the Wolf movie one again Ifstar. Came out at 478 KB per sec. Big improvement on last Sat when I was downloading at 348 KB per sec.ifstar wrote:Ran the speed test on that site, coming out at about 3.34Mb for me and says that I should be downloading at 428KB - which is nonsense as I was happily downloading from the states last night at over 1Mb. Re: Teleport
Got the 'flyer' through the door for that this week - been dying to give it a shot (sad, I knowfoxy wrote:Just had a look at the new Teleport service from Telewest which looks very state of the art. I may never have to set the video to record ever again
Seems like they've only got BBC and Living channel TV shows at the moment - although apparently more will be on the way, probably once Telewest have done a deal with them.foxy wrote:I had access to it last night Pops.......disappointingly, the Replay function does not seem to include ITV or Channel 4 programmes...so if you miss Lost, it's lost
Looks good, but will be better with more shows on it. I missed 'Rome' the other night and was looking forward to it, so may have a look later as think that might be on it.
Teleport rocks!!
Show appear almost immediately after broadcast and stay up for a week.
I am rubbish at remembering to watch scheduled shows so this suits me - I am a big fan of the new comedy series "Broken News" and have only seen one episode in realtime - the other 2 on Teleport.
The pause / ffwd facility works well too. What with this and the broadband speedup, Telewest have done not bad recently.
