Sorry if this has been brought up before, but has it ever been considered opening up POL with more forums?

Something like.

Newbies
Portobello events
Funny Stuff
Classifieds (traders not allowed)

etc etc.

What do you think? :)

Don't apologise, we are always receptive to new ideas. The subject of new forums has been a contentious one in the past and I'm not sure that the forum is busy enough to merit breaking up any further. What does anyone else think?

Portobello events of course have their own place in the 'What's On' section of the website.

I don't know how many active members POL has but you have roughly the same amount of members that the site I'm an admin on:

Would be good to see the others views?

You didn't just engineer this thread to plug your own forum by any chance?

You made 3408 posts since 29 Nov, an average of over 18 a day! That certainly puts Porty in the shade.

True, a lot of people use EB to chat away. More forums might encourage more members to post?

Anyhoo doesnt look anyone else wants to comment. :(

Well, I think you'll find it's quality rather than quantity here at Portobello Online.

More forums = more confusion... IMHO. And Robin, your site only has the one forum ;) (unless you register)

If this was a much more specialised forum then i'd see the point, but it's not so I think one general forum and one more focused/serious one is a good enough setup.

Yup you have to register to reveal the other forums!

Ah well. I thought it was worth a mention, I cant see how more forums can cause confusion when the title is there. Still think at least a for sale forum would be good!

I agree a 'For Sale' forum might be useful. You often see cards in the Library, Scotmid and other local shop windows but an online version might catch on and attract new visitors to the forum.

If the idea has support we could maybe trial it for a while?

I like the idea of 1 or 2 other forums (certainly a 'for sale' one would be good) but probably no more than that - I'm a member of one that has about 20 forums and it get v confusing

Totally agree about 20+ forums can be confusing, anything between 5 - 10 is ok. Suppose it depends on the site though.

Pbay is good :D

I don't think a few extra forums would do any harm. Certainly a 'wanted' and 'for sale' forum would be useful! A 'whats on' guide would also be good. We should defo have a 'newbies' section as well so that everyone can say hello, I don't think having it all in just one thread works that well. Finally a 'jokes' forum would be good to seperate the spam from the more serious discusions!

What I don't get is... well... Are folk falling over themself just now to flog and buy stuff? No, so why bother with the extra forum - no demand. If there was, and it was proving to be a PITA on the main forum then fair enough.

Likewise the main forum is intended to be lighthearted - "Portobello Matters" is the serious one (well, that's the idea) - so jokes etc are welcome.

What am I missing? Why have more forums, just for the sake of them?

Why don't we start a Forum on the subject of 'Should we have another Forum'? 8)
