20,000 posts

Post by Bob Jefferson » 16 Apr 2005, 18:14

Ideas sought for ways to celebrate our 20,000th post, which isn't too far away.

This is a major milestone for us, so I'm looking for something big, audacious, outrageous even!

Suggestions please. Post here or pm me.

A mass skinny dip of all POL members at the foot of Bath Street on 1st May?

Nah! The Developer of the big white building would think we were celebrating his lovely project. 8)

Copy of email to Big Things On The Beach:
Hi

The Portobello Online community forum is soon to celebrate its 20,000th post. We thought it would be nice to celebrate this milestone in some way.

Intitially I had planned to project our logo onto the facade of the building at the foot of Bath Street, but Plan B was to somehow re-create the logo on the beach and I'm sure this would attract lots of attention and interest.

I'm fairly confident I could rustle up a few volunteers but we could use some artistic help. Haven't really thought this through and I have no idea what materials we would use or how permanent it might be, but if BTOTB is interested in being involved, or can assist in any way, please get in touch.

Ta

Bob

What about the dude that flies the plane with the 'will you marry me' sign, he could drag a PoL sign and you could do an article on him on the webpage to get him business. Im sure some newspaper would turn up and advertise the site further.

How's about involving Punch Taverns with them providing free drinks at their various establishments for people with a voucher printed out from the Web site.

Just had a peek at the thread history:

August 17th 2004 POL celebrated its 4000 post!! It took more than 21 months to achieve that number.

Exactly 9 months later we have achieved 20,000 plus.

So the average monthly rate of posting has gone from 190 posts per month to 1694 posts per month.

Quite amazing, particularly when one considers the expulsion of Surrealist (500 posts plus), the disapperance of the artist known as Bob (1000 posts plus), Alex was 500 posts plus and the 40+ page Big Brother thread!!

Those posts are still around (as "guest") except for the BB thread, and the other thread that got deleted by accident.

But I can tell you the the "real" total of posts ever made is: 21632 (including this one). That number includes any posts that have been deleted etc.

Indeed!

I've just check who had the 20000th post as the board sees it... And it was me, and it was about deleted threads... Hmmm!
