My 2 Cents......Is it just me?.....

Post by CatzVP » 27 Apr 2005, 05:30

I have just sat through a US news report stating that world terrorism is at an all time high, and that the "US homeland" is basically saving all our asses. It mentioned there was over 170 terrorist attacks all over the planet last year, and how glad the rest of the planet should be that America is spending billions of dollars so we can sleep safely at night as they rid us of the evil jihad ... 170 terrorists attacks... wow... I thought, that’s a lot.... Until the network switched back to a Canadian channel which continued with the subject.... American congress counts an event to be a significant terrorist attack, if it is one or more of the following

1. Death of an individual(s) (obvious)
2. Injury of an individual(s) (twisted ankle, poked in the eye??)

And the best for last....

3. Cause more than $10,000 of damage (about 5250 quid)

They also mentioned most of the attacks were category 3. With a high percentage being 2. (more people are killed by lightning strikes in the world every year than are killed by terrorism, except of course in 2001)
(An uninsured taxi hit my car one day; just down the road from the Registers of Scotland causing 6 grand worth of damage…technically that makes him a terrorist!!)

I also worked out that America has expended 1 billion dollars for every terrorist attack (170 billion) whereas the damage in total by all the terrorist attacks was around 2 million. Bet the American taxpayer loves Bush!

I realize that terrorists kill people, but im getting fed up that the US is pushing everybody's buttons by using this scare tactic that causes fear and xenophobia between races, and religions. I also know there are evil Muslims out there, as well as evil Christians, and evil Jews, but lets face it were talking a small minority. (those crazy Pagans on the other hand!!!!)

(The above information does not include events in Iraq or Afganistan which are part of a war , whether fair or not, and not individual events of world terrorism)

Cant we all just get on?

Well that’s my rant over
Is Man The Dream Of The Dolphin??

Terrorism is pretty much in the eye of the beholder, I recall Bush's Education Secretary Rod Paige describing the National Education Association (USA schoolteachers) as a terrorist organisation. They are everywhere, if you want to see them. Remember all those terrorists rounded up in Edinburgh a while ago?
