I strongly agree that robust measures should be introduced to eliminate potential genetic crossover in GM trials.

I am however amazed at how vociferous people are on this particular issue, when as a nation, we are prepared to gobble up any ingredients the manufacturers care to stick in their ready meals. Consistently high saturated fat, sugar and salt levels in a vast array of pre-prepared food is a major factor in contributing towards the obesity and general health epidemic sweeping through our nation.

Nobody asked for my tuppence but here it is:

I don't have an issue with GM as such.

I (and I suspect this is what upsets many others) do object to the big business monopoly element coupled with the 'once its contaminated you can't go back' side of the process.

You can't really separate out GM stuff without rigorous controls and governance. Neither can you break the grip the businesses then exert.

I don't have a problem with GM foods...seems like natural progression to me

It could be the only way that we may be able to end starvation in third world countries

I've been eating seedless grapes for years. Haven't you?

I saw Haslet at the meat counter in Scotmid today, I don't think I've ever tasted it and the look of it didn't do much to encourage me I have to admit.
Unlike you though, Bearcub I love Spam especially when it first comes out of the tin,after it's been in the fridge it's not quite so nice

The chippie in Eastenders has a poster on the wall advertising Spam fritters but I've never see a chippie selling them up here

I've never seen a spam fritter for sale,we're more renowned for our Mars bar fritters in Scotland, I think the chippie in Stonehaven was credited with being the first to come up with the idea. Haven't heard of anyone having had one for a while so maybe that craze has passed. I know Carlos at one time did something similar.

Aye the Carron Chipper - I was amazed that it was closed at Hogmanay this year?!

Always used to go to the open-air pool at Stonehaven and then walk along the front or main st to the chipper... and then catch the bus back to Newtonhill.

I have had quite a few pokes of chips from that chippie over the years but not for a long time.It used to be the stopping place when on bus runs. I come from Huntly and that was always the favourite place to stop on the way home.
Now that the bypass is there we don't go through Stonehaven anymore and it doesn't hold fond memories for me at the moment. On a trip home last september the car broke down on the way back on that very bypass and myself, dog and a goldfish had to travel back to Edinburgh on the train. Hubby and car stayed the night up there only to discover the next day was the Aberdeen holiday and the part could not be got for the car so another train journey to Edinburgh for him and back up the following week-end to collect the car. All in all the whole thing cost around Ã‚Â£400 as we had to join the AA in an emergency situation and all they did was tow us to a garage. One of lifes little experiences.

Carlos used to do the Mars bar or similar, deep fried. I'm not sure if they still do but I'm sure they'd do one as a special request. I've never tried one, I have never eaten a Mars bar in any form ever,one bite was enough,far too sickly for me.
Now the pizzas that's a different story, I've had a few of them I'm ashamed to admit.

I used to have one every day for my lunch - love them. The thought of a GM tampered Mars bar is awful. It's like when the changed the name of the Marathon to Snickers - it's like a cross between knickers and snotters and it put me right off

I used to really enjoy a Snickers despite the annoying name change but thank you Epykat you've succeeded in putting me right off them as well.

Mind you working with young children, knickers and snotters are all in a days work

I did have a bite of a DFMB but I was Severely drunk at the time... so saying it tasted good, may not be entirely true!! since I've moved I dont eat chocolate anymore fried or unfried as its north american vile putrid crap....but thats another story!!

My brother said they were selling them in the Barbecue chippy when he was here at New year. A chinese chippy in my rustic English hometown sold them when I was still at school though...a fair while ago.
