Sometimes 'bots' that trawl the internet for links get confused and turn up loads of hits - but it could be genuine!

Only Bob can tell us (if the IP's are logged)..

I find it very difficult to believe, but I don't have an alternative explanation.

Another little POL blip that I am experiencing at the mo is "Topic Watching". As far as I am aware I have never requested to watch any topic for whenever someone replies. In the last two weeks I have recieved loads of emails informing me. Its annoying as i have to keep "de-registering" from watching for each individual topic.

Also, when I logged in tonight I was "hidden". I looked in Profile and "hidden" was selected. I wonder if I was "Hiding" at 3am on Sinday morning? I certainly thought I was invisible.

I'd noticed that you were hiding earlier but thought you were just being coy. Checked your profile and you have 'Always notify me of replies' deselected so you shouldn't be getting notifications unless you specifically request them.

Monitor it for a while and let me know if you get any more problems.

I've done a look up on all the IPs - one thing is for sure they're not bots from the search engines. Most are random US dialup/broadband home users, with a few worldwide ones for good measure too. Looks like an amry of infected PCs!

If it continues tomorrow I guess we can think about setting the forum so only registered users can read - just for a few days.

maybe set it so only registered users can see the members list?

I've taken my email address off my profile as it has obviously been taken from there before and used to give me junk mail.

If it's DDOS then that won't help - you'll need to block the ip's at the root level.

Distributed DOS... Anyway, I'm not giving it anymore thought just now - only two guests...

MrM - I'll have a hunt round for a mod/hack to prevent unregistered folk seeing the memberlist - however i'm loath to install more of these as they make upgrades a real PITA, we'll see!

Could it simply have been something to do with the fact that it was Burns Night

Presumably if you googled BurnsSupper, the POL site would show up eventually because of the PCATS thread

Or maybe all those Americans had just heard about Joe Findlay and his famous haggis recipe?
It would be nice to think that they were all genuine visitors wouldn't it? :)

We seem to be having another of those strange, busy days again.

Currently me, Pop and 25 guests! We might beat our record if it continues.

Up to 30 now ecm with 4 of us members. The IPs are again all different with some seeming local to me. Maybe it's Tana's link!
