Anatomy for Beginners

Post by Porty » 28 Jan 2005, 09:32

Has anyone caught any of the 4 prorgrammes that have been on Channel 4 this week?

I watched last night, when the anatomist was dissecting the human reproduction systems. As he was "doing" the man his assistant said that no matter how experienced one becomes one always winces when performing this cut; as he sliced the Penis long ways.....erm no kidding. I had to get to sleep with a pillow firmly jammed between my knees.

Somehow the slicing and sawing up of real human bodies is not as diffcult to observe as I thought, its gruesome but intriguing. I guess one major advantage of watching on TV is that there is no smell. If you missed it there is a compendium of the "highlights" being broadcast on Sunday, Ch 4 at 9pm. Its called (and this is not a Porty crap pun) The Final Gut.

Haven't watched any of it Porty. I caught the trailers for them but felt that it was being presented as a form of 'edutainment' that would appeal to the voyeur in us. Felt uncomfortable with the concept :?
Interestingly enough my S5 class had asked me yesterday if I had watched any of it too. They had only watched a small bit. Their view seemed to be similar to mine with the exception that they found the wrinkled skin of the cadaver most distressing.

Oh, is that the thing there was a big fuss about on the news some months ago?
I don't think I would find the actual visual thing too distressing but I wouldn't want to watch it as I feel it's a hell of an invasion of privacy, even if you are dead!

I hope you managed to sleep ok though and didn't have too many nightmares :D ...

If that's what you heard...buy some Cotton Buds :!: ...as you might expect, it's actually called "The Final Cut"

I have been totally riveted to this programme...absolutely fascinating to see how the body works and to see how you all look inside (not me you understand)

I think the absence of blood definitely helped me overcome my aversion to gore and the tone of the programme has been perfect for what is obviously a very sensitive topic.

The German Professor guy is a bit Frankenstein-esque though

 My bad, the only thing I could say in my defence is that I was rolling over clutching a pillow to my "testies" (I like the way he said that) and squirming at the time.

I have only watched one of these programmes (they are on a bit too late for me) and was totally transfixed much to my horror as I did think it was a bit voyeuristic but couldn't help myself. In my defence, I have studied anatomy and seeing the real thing is so much better than plastic models and diagrams.
