Best or worst Xmas present

Post by bellybabe » 01 Dec 2004, 21:15

Feeling - uncharacteristically - festive this evening, so...

What's the worst christmas - or birthday - present you ever had?

I've a few contenders, but I think my worst ever present was for my ninth birthday from my dad. My parents were divorced, and he was a bit...useless at presents. Anyway for my 9th birthday he got me...a plate. It had a picture of a very girly girl on a swing covered in flowers, and it said around the rim, "Happy 9th Birthday, Paula Jane" (that's my name out then...but Bob already did that for me in a different thread  . Now you even have my middle name...). Was it a Tiny Tears? No. A Mr Frosty, like I'd always begged for? No. A plate. A *&*^$"%(*)&* plate. Just what every nine year old wants. :?

But worse was to come...he didn't let me take it home. He bought me a bloody plate...and then he KEPT it!!!! I mean, what use was a plate saying "Happy 9th Birthday Paula Jane" to him? His name was Kenneth Williams! And he wasn't 9!

Not that I'm bitter or anything.

Oh, the trauma... :crybaby:

Not feeling so festive any more. :(

Did I forget to mention that? Yes, always one for the ladies, was old Ken... ROFLMAO.

No seriously, yes. And my brother's a famous singer - Andy Williams. And he married Denise Williams.

My two contenders for worst Christmas present are;
the year I got nothing because my Mum and Dad couldn't afford it and knew I'd understand (which I did , but I'm still going for a sympathy vote here  )
and
the pair of trainers that my husband bought me as a total SURPRISE present. Those of you that know me will understand what a totally inappropriate pressie that one was!

We had a presentation on the signalised junction to replace the Kings Rd roundabout (of which more later) at the CC meeting the other night, courtesy of one Roger Hargreaves. Took me a lot of effort not to say 'My daughter is such a big fan of yours'.

Sorry, off-topic already!

It's really mostly their associations with exercise that I have a problem with ..... that and the fact that I sleep in a bedroom full of smelly, old (but 'useful') trainers, and am greeted at my front door by a small regiment of various trainers/cross trainers/cycle shoes etc.
What is that saying again about opposites attracting? :P

Don't want this to sound like an 'in crowd' story but I'm sure Lizzie will remember the year at work when the dreaded photo frame surfaced! She was really, really bad and put it back into the draw the next year and guess who go it? Yes......moi  Hate to tell you but I still have it and one day it will find it's way back to you!

Worst birthday present was from Mr E. I was 7 months pregnant, looking not unlike the sides of two buses joined together and he bought me a white, angora ( :x ) jumper - in a size 10 (I'm not even a 10 on a normal day!). I remember trying to get it over my ample bosom with no success and it only served to make me feel even worse than a seven month pregnant woman feels anyway. I never, ever wore it......the memories were too awful.
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

are you referring to the "yoga pants" (that's what adidas calls them anyway - yoga is soooooo not me) that I was wearing today whilst doing Walk and Tone along the Prom?

Anything shiny! And being worn by people who have no intention of going near a gym. Clearly you were undertaking a sporting activity so that is perfecty OK! :)

What a bumper week for me, I've managed to offend 2 people in 1 week I think I'm getting the hang of this forum business!

lol - I'm not in the least bit offended

at the risk of offending all tracksuit wearers, I'm the person who wants to wear a sign saying "I've just been exercising" when I'm walking home from my exercise, just in case anyone thinks I normally dress like that

I must have been phenomenonally lucky. I've never had a Christmas present that I positively hated, and the one or two that were a bit odd, were just funny. When I was a kid, an elderly friend of my Mam's used to send me presents that we spent most of Christmas trying to work out what they were for! That just added to the fun. I can't think of a birthday present that was bad either. I think teachers are most at risk, especially primary teachers, because some of their pupils can buy them very odd things, though always kindly meant! (I'm not one, but my Sis is.) ('Teacher', I mean, not 'primary kid', or 'present'!)

BEST OR WORSE CHRISTMAS PRESENT YOU EVER GOT

Post by prombabe » 06 Dec 2004, 18:13

Well where do I begin BEST is easy, that was a real live budgie that I sat on my shoulder and ran across the street to show my friend....and NO it didnt fly away but I had my Dad chasing after me and grabbing it off my shoulder....well I was only 25 oops 8 at the time.
Funny enough it was my Dad that gave me myWORST present and that was when I was about 25.
My lovely little sister got a selection of perfume mmmmmm I thought ... no such luck unless you like Richard Claderman and a matching headscarf and umbrella. I rest my case and I'm sure someone out there can beat it.
A mince pie for the winner
