This photograph was found on the High Street on Saturday 20 December near the post box on the corner of Rosefield Avenue. It is a little damaged as it was lying in the rain. If it is yours or you know who it belongs to please get in touch.

I was looking through some of the older threads and found this. Almost a year since this photo was found. Did anyone come forward to claim it? Seems a shame if it has not been found by its owner.

DG, no I'm afraid not. It was published in the Portobello Reporter as well but no-one claimed it. I still have the photograph though if anyone knows who it belongs to.

The photo is taken round about 1942 (+/- 3 years)
Chicky is about 12 (+/- 2 years)
Which makes her 74 (+/- 5 years)
So there is a good chance she is still out there, lets hope she is and can add a story to the image.
I love old pictures

Catz, I'm interested to know how you can be so sure about the date? Is it the fashion? Are those windows taped up in case of an air strike?

Yes Bob correct on both accounts, although the anti blast taping on windows was WW2 (not too much need with WW1 shorter range aircraft (unless you count blimps).... to verify, the clothing stayed quite similar throughout the 40's and early 50's and that double buttoned coat fits the time frame perfectly.
Another give away is the quality of the film, which is still quite good, even compared to today’s standards, plus the small fact that in WW1 time frame you would have to be very rich to waste pictures on such a simple subject (no disrespect to the lady involved) normally, more family would be involved to save on photo's....my.. how times have changed!!
Now to work out if the Baby is real or a doll!!!!!

Now to work out if the Baby is real or a doll!!!!!
That's easy - it's a doll as she's not supporting its head, which you would be doing for a real baby. ( All girls then would know exactly how to look after a baby as that was their destiny

This may sound obvious, but did a notice about this get put up in the library? It occurs to me, if it was by the post-box there, that someone had been scanning it in the library, and dropped it on the way home. I have occasionally left precious old photos actually on the scanner, and had them kindly returned by the library staff.

CatzVP asked
Can anyone identify the area in the picture?
Peering at it with my aged peepers, the building looks a bit "bricky" for Scotland??

Agreed Poppy, there is a few rear areas on buildings in where the Victiorial builders cheaped out on sandstone. But the possibility is slim
This will make spotting a bit easier

What about putting this up on the noticeboard of the local GP's Surgery - just a thought

How old would you be, if you didn't know how old you are?
