I know this topic has surfaced a few times over the years, but I'm keen to hear from anyone who has information about the Skylark or memories they would like to share.

There are some references on the Edinphoto website but not much else to go on.

Can anyone add to this?

Although you may not find much as it currently only goes as far as 1950.

Well I think it was in operation in the 1950s but I don't know exactly when it commenced service. No mention at all then?

Oh thought about the Navy Lark for a minute

BUTwas the Skylark the wee boat that used to sail from a temp wooden pier on Portobello beach, round about the foot of Marlborough St.
Anyway I seem to remember that from childhood days

Yes, and all the children used to play on the wooden pier when the tide was out!!! But I think it used to be nearer the amusements. I used to face a hard choice of whether to spend my pocket money on going for a trip on the " Skylark" or having a ride on the ponies!!! Either that, or try and make more money in the amusements!!!

It was round about 1955 to 58 I remember the skylark which used to take us out and along to round about Joppa and back.

It must still have been in operation until at least the late 1960s because I remember it. Was never allowed on it though - my parents were a bit over protective. Same reason I wasn't allowed to eat Jubilees
