The reverse of this postcard contains the following lines of verse, attributed to 'M.F.'
PORTOBELLO
Go North or South! Or East or West!
Vain would our travels be!
Once more we turn with eager zest,
This charming spot to see!
Along the pleasant Promenade
We wander to and fro;
Across the sunny golden Sands
We watch the wavelets flow!
The handsome Pier! The Bandstand bright!
The Shelter from the rain!
To all each one affords delight,
Again! And yet again!
The happy children romp and play
From dewy morn till eve!
How sweetly innocent are they
With all their 'Make-believe'!
Ah! Countless are the blessings poured
On all who venture here;
The Invalid has health restored,
The Strong have joy and cheer!
Edinburgh-by-the-Sea.
