Re: PORTOBELLO MARKET RETURNS - Saturday 1st February
Hi I wanted to ask whether siting the market either in Straiton place park or on the pavement on the high street outside Favers has been considered? It seems both these locations would improve footfall as a higher number of people passing those ways. There may be blockers to these options but though...

Re: Portobello Community Council
It was a reply to one of the comments: "GNR 5:35 PM on 21/04/2013 Why should the PCC support the school proposals? It wouldn't make one single bit of difference to the outcome if they supported it or not. It's way, way past that. This is personal for PFANS. They want to destroy certain members of th...

I'd be interested to see each groups current membership as a percentage of the PCC population (11,737) and what consultation and engagement they've conducted in say the past year. Does anyone who lives in Brightons and Rosefield feel represented and engaged by this group? Which of these groups can r...

Sit on the fence why don't you Makaveli ;-) Might just be worth dropping our councilors an email to let them know you support the proposed changes (I'm sure Andrew Burns will also be interested in the community voice on this). The CoEC are extending the deadline until 12 April and are encouraging porty people to give their views on the proposal (outlined in Wangi's post above) to reduce the number of PCC nominated group representatives from 15 to 7 as well as reducing teh number of elected members from 15 to 14. Re: Visit Portobello (and let your dog shit everywhere)
Here's the latest Tripadvisor review added this week. This is what visitors are experiencing. Like it or not there is a growing issue and I fear it'll only get worse if left alone. We need the community to work together to find a solution that sits well with dog owners and non dog owners. “Bit of a ...

Re: The shops thread (was: Empty Shops on Porty High St)
I have concerns about traffic congestion at an already extremelly busy junction at peak times. I wonder if they would (a) consider no customer parking onsite or (b) limit customer parking to non-peak times. Although there are only 48 parking places that won't stop more cars entering the tight car pa...

Re: Portobello Community Council
Do we really need a Community Council? Ok they have some role to play in planning input - but could we as a community not define a way to make sure we're involved in this and consult on it where time permits? The only way PCC will change is if at the next actual election the community vote in enough...

Re: The Portobello Comedy Night (Part 2)
Hi Steven I'll send this round the Portydads. The first show surpassed my expectations......the only slight reservation I had was the venue. To me it's too big a space for the event. Not sure if others felt the same. A smaller more intimate venue would make this a great experience. Good luck with th...

A but Cuth if you check the PCC minutes from 1894 (think they were eventually published in 1896) I seem to recall JS/DC approved the colour scheme for each and every one of those those persoanllycuth wrote:In 1894 there were 18 grocers on the High Street. Now we're panicking about half a dozen or so.

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal
So what you're proposing Commander is to set the school in a park and in closer proximity to houses than the current proposed school appears to be?
If the proposed school was built on stilts so 'preserving' the park would that satisfy PPAG?
Somehow I have my doubts.

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal
Let's leave aside whether Quarry park is CG or not - first of it's a park that is used way more than Portobello Park. Even putting that to one side let's say it was legally possible to build a 'less than ideal' school on a smaller piece of green space. Could we not have the recreational facilities n...

I'd also be interested for the Community Council to make their submission available for the Portobello Community to see - would demonstrate they're embracing the new open and transparent approach so many in the community seem to want from them.

I received a reply from Maureen Child saying everything is being considered, but it doesn't look like this option (selling the park) is possible.
