Re: Woodwares closing / Sainsburys coming to Portobello
The council do not own ocean terminal and from my recollection they never have. It is owned by a fund within the resolution fund management stable and they purchased it from forth ports.

Yes she is very lucky to be alive. Phew If anyone was to be hit by a golf ball it would be from a distance so unlikely to cause any harm, never mind killed. If they were to be hit by a golf ball traveling at speed they would have to be close to the person swinging the club which would not be the cas...

Re: Acorn Pets Artwork
Drove past them on Sunday and there was a mixed reaction in my car. My wife thought the shop had been turned into a brothel or strip bar and I quite liked them, would prefer to have something colourful that might stop flyposting rather ntohing at all, appearing like another empty shop.

Loppylou - Are you and Amanda, one and the same person, by the way the post reads it would appear you are, apologies if you are not. My reason for this is some of your claims are overstated , such as the reputation within the industry - she does have a reputation but from what I have heard it is not...

Re: Local Porty bar/restaurant lacks extract ventilation
I think the owner now sees the Espy as established, she has another pub, the Guilty Lily (at Bonnington Road) which she regards as established and is now looking for new ventures so will be unlikely to be spending money or time on the Espy.

Re: Local Porty bar/restaurant lacks extract ventilation
I am a fan of the Espy on some fronts but against it on others. I like the food they serve, Portobello does not have many restaurants and requires places like the Espy to attract people to the area. But at the same time, I am annoyed by the lack of general cleanliness within the bar, what really ann...

Re: The shops thread (was: Empty Shops on Porty High St)
Went into what used to be Wysteria Lane and it is a bric-a-brac shop. Had a sign up last week advertising hat hire, didn't see any mention of hire today.

I have also had several comments deleted, on Friday evening there were around 15 comments against their latest story and this dropped down to 8 last night due to their removal of comments not aligned to their agenda.

Re: New Portobello High School - planning application
I notice they still state on their homepage that they represent a significant majority which has proven to be untrue, I wonder how long it will be until they reflect the truth?????

Forum index:26 The Prom / 60 Bath Street
I have noticed a user group within Talk Porty entitled 26 The Prom / 60 Bath Street and was being nosey to wonder what this group is, is it just for neghbours who are friends, are there issues with the addresses quoted?
What is the control around someone wanting a group and private forum created?

Having had coffee in both the Mei Lee and Blue Bean I would welcome a Costa, Nero or even a Starbucks. Not sure if I had a poorly trained Barrista or someone having a bad day but in Mei Lee the large cup was pretty small, not full and not that hot. The Blue Bean cafe, again the cup was not big enoug...

Not sure there was that much of an opposition to the plans. I received confirmation from the council that my objection had been noted but I never submitted an objection. Think a lot of the objections were sent by an individual or small minority. I had previously objected to the waste transfer facili...

I agree with Porty, in addition to this (correct me if I am wrong) but Biggs only returned to Britain once his health had deteriorated and wanted to be closer to his family and receive treatment from the NHS as opposed to the offerings in Brazil. I am not sure if the extra costs to keep him in jail ...

Apologies Bob, I have misquoted the prices on the Witchery, I have double checked and it is £12.95 for a 2 course light lunch. Michael, not sure what Witchery you and your special friend were in (possibly the one in your head) but their dearest dish is the Chateaubriand which is around £50.00 and is...

Have been to the Witchery several times and they do a very reasonable lunch menu where dishes are around £12.50 for a main course. In terms of good places for lunch the following are all great options: The Espy Longniddry Inn - Big hearty portions, great choice and around £8.00 per main dish The Cok...

Christmas Lights
As a a newcomer to Portobello in my first Christmas here could anyone advise if the is a light 'switching-on' ceremony or do the council just switch them on? I noticed that one of the lights was on outside the town hall last night and it got me wondering. Any help you could give would be great. Thanks
