The forum is only one bit of Portobello Online - check out the rest: http://porty.org.uk/ - including a what's on.
Ahhh never knew that! :) Still the other forums I mentioned would be good!

I don't think a few extra forums would do any harm. Certainly a 'wanted' and 'for sale' forum would be useful! A 'whats on' guide would also be good. We should defo have a 'newbies' section as well so that everyone can say hello, I don't think having it all in just one thread works that well. Finall...

Good show, the road tolls were a terrible and ill though out idea. If there were to be tolls a much improved public transport system had to be in place already. This is perticuarly important for those travelling from mid, east, and west lothian and the Borders. Further more the tolled area would hav...

Many of the concerns you have raised are dealt with here . More detailed information regarding the methodology used to prioritise areas to be traffic-calmed is also available to download from this website. As for the Association of British Drivers, I think their facts and figures may be ever so sli...

BOY RACER! If you're driving within the legal/recommended speed limit for the area (ie 20, for which I think Portobello is becoming enforced, not just recommended) then there isn't a problem - perhaps a slight slow down for the actualy bump which will add all of a few seconds onto your journey time...

11 in the whole of Edinburgh's residential areas..... and these were not people being killed or it would be 11 fatalities! 11 is a tiny figure... compair that too the estimated 500 lives lost in London a year because ambulances were slowed as a result of traffic calming. Or the number of lives lost ...

BB, quite enjoying being a Ms! This is an interesting site re speed bumps: http://www.abd.org.uk/speed_humps.htm Andy, maximum allowable height of a speedbump is 100mm (~4"), but recent recommendation from the DfT: "To limit the possibility of grounding, investigations suggest that road humps gener...

We should probably have a forum where user can post topics about themselves so that other uses can get to know everyone better! They could be locked topics or left open for comments etc? :?

Yes, a hung parliament would be fascinating although it would be bad if the Tories were able to get concessions. That's interesting you think some of the Labour majority will be nibbled by Tory gains - perhaps in the marginals they have been concentrating on? I dunno, but it could be a good night f...

If you want my thoughts on the matter (or even if you don't!) I really don't care whose car gets damaged by speed bumps. Rather that than them being damaged by a human being landing on their bonnet. I would have Portobello speed bumped from end to end and width wise as well, especially Brighton Pla...

In my opinion one of two things will happen (UK wide).

(i) Labour will win losing a bit of its majority to Tories and Lib dems.

(ii) It will be all change and we may have a situation where no party holds a majority which would be interesting.

Some one else who agrees! :D I have not recieved any form of consultation for the council as well. Speed Cameras are hidously expensive (or there would be more).... but then so is £6 million for speed bumps so dunno really what would be cheaper? Also the new speed bumps that have been placed rece...

Sad I know! :?

Anyway cast your vote, you can say who your voting for if you want or keep it to yourself.

I will make no secret that I am voting for Lib dems as usual. :)

Well, on some things I am sure I am right, this is one of them.

Although I wouldn't like people to think I am big headed, anyone that knows me can tell you I am not.

These bumps can and will damage cars regardless of speed or whether or not they have been lowered to improve road handeling and safty. Obviously more damage will be done when a car is driven fast over any bump. Whats the point in 20mph advisory signs that cannot be enforced? Why not just make the li...

Anti-Speed Bump Campaign

I realise there is another topic on the forum about this so clearly there is interest in the matter. The council is spending £6 million on useless pathetic stupid bumps.... At a cost of £1000 per bump! And they are puting those stupid bumps at the end of streets. Its really time that people st...
