Hi Beannachd, welcome to the forum...and to Marlborough Street!
This thread link below should tell you more about the development, in short it's just the one house as far as I know.

Re: The shops thread (was: Empty Shops on Porty High St)
I see that the builders are in Woodwares today starting the renovations for the change to Sainsburys, and La Favorita have been doing renovations for the last week or so too. There's a couple of interesting Georgian Arch windows that have been uncovered and are now visible at the back of Woodwares/S...

Re: The shops thread (was: Empty Shops on Porty High St)
On the Butternut Squash news, I think it's a good move for them and they'll do well in Bath Street (more central, bigger premises) as well as being good replacements for Dragons Way. The only pity is that it will leave another empty unit at their old premises.

Just like Sainsburys, I've nothing against Lidl "setting up shop", although don't think we'll see any PCA*** action groups this time with it officially being in Craigentinny. The site is already starting to look a bit rundown, and it's not hard to see it getting a lot worse if left empty for much lo...

Love La Favorita, so will be delighted if they get planning consent to open in Portobello. Maybe all the deliverys we're ordered from the Leith Walk branch has persuaded them there's a lot of potential custom in Portobello. A shame to lose another shop, but at least there are other florists in...

The problem is that the same people who currently refuse to pick up after their dogs would be the same ones that would ignore any dog 'no-go' area. Responsible dog-owners would observe it, but they're not the problem.

Good news - Portobello, the hair cutting capital of Scotland, is to gain two more hairdressers! 99 High St is to be a barber; 212 (was the computer place) will be a hair & beauty place. And, in a move to ensure that title can never be challenged, no 188 High St (opposite the RBS) is going to be ANO...

Re: Woodwares closing / Sainsburys coming to Portobello
Seems I was misinformed! Surprised that the ventilation and plant was the one that didn't pass, Sainsburys must have experience elsewhere when they set up stores with what is permitted with regards to that. I hadn't seen any evidence of a petition either, must be hidden away when anyone who doesn't ...

UKStationery, I thought you said you wanted to "cut the bull and bluster"? Older people quivering in their homes because of the noise of folk leaving a shop at 11pm. The genteel people of Portobello shading their eyes from the hideous dark purple frontage when they were so used to Georgian bookies, ...

But I can't help feeling, like many of you, that they are simply against Sainsbury's and just want to make life as difficult as possible by objecting to every aspect of every application. Going by the email Wangi copied in this thread earlier, I think it's fair to say it's more than just a feeling....

Not against this at all, and the impact will be nothing like the Superstore that the original PCATS was set up for. It's a shame about Woodwares, as it's been a saviour many a time for those last minute requirements for DIY jobs, but if the owner is retiring then there's no other realistic alternati...

Well we have a street pattern laid out about 200 years ago, so working within those constraints what's to be done. I've heard a few people mention Home Zones, and they're appealing in many ways, but I can't see that being workable without a massive reduction in parking. I think the realistic option...

That'll teach me to open my eyes when walking the dog!
To be honest, it was the new illuminated signs on the Lane itself that I noticed, and I just assumed the one-way part had only just come along at the same time too.
