Re: Loss of 70 parking spaces on Regent Street and Malboroug

Seriously though, I think increasing traffic flow on the High Street is a rotten idea. Reducing traffic flow instead would encourage traffic to use Milton Rd / Harry Lauder Road, making Porty much more pleasant at rush hour.

Re: Loss of 70 parking spaces on Regent Street and Malboroug

I'm all for the reduction in car parking spaces. All those cars make it difficult to cycle on the pavement.

Re: Portobello air raid shelter

I read about the bomb in the library — it was near Christian Path, and they tried to dig it out but it kept sinking further. In the end they covered it in concrete. Thanks for the info. Rathbone, do you know if the Brighton Place ones were underground, or were they huts?

Portobello air raid shelter

Would anyone here know, or even remember, the location of the Portobello bomb shelters? I moved into Mount Lodge Place last year, and have heard rumours that my garden — where the clump of trees is in the map below — is above an old air raid shelter, probably the cellar of a previous building. I've ...

I asked one of the lads doing the shopfitting. I might have misheard, but the secure kiosk bit looks consistent with a pawn shop.

Mackie's

Nobody's had a pop at the 'mid for a while, so here goes... I was in at the weekend, and asked why the Mackie's ice cream, advertised at half price, hadn't been in evidence since the posters appeared. I was told there was none, as the warehouse only had a very small quantity and none of it reached P...

I saw Little Feat and Dr John there last year too -- both excellent gigs. It can sound a bit muddy, but the atmosphere's good.

Essentially if the average speed through the city (probably about 5MPH just now) was increased then drivers wouldn't feel so frustrated and speed whenever they are not stuck in traffic. Improving the flow of traffic just increases the amount of traffic on the roads. I'm enjoying the reduced traffic...

I personally believe that the area occupied by the golf course could be put to much better use for the whole community I couldn't agree more. Cappuccino. Starbucks cap is way too milky for me though, even the small ("tall") one. Other than my home made cup, the second best cappuccino in Portobello is from the Wimpy on the prom IMHO.
